Exercise Description

Dumbbell Chop is a core strengthening exercise that targets the lower abdominals and obliques. It also engages the muscles of your back, hip, and shoulders.

Exercise Instructions

  • Step 1

Standing shoulder-width apart, hold a dumbbell with both hands over one shoulder, arms completely straight. Keep your torso firm. This is your starting position.
  • Step 2

Rotate your torso as you lower the dumbbell to the opposite thigh and over your thigh. Don't round your lower back. Return the movement to its original position.

Exercise Tips

  • Avoid moving the weight with your arms instead of your core. Make sure you rotate on your hips and not your shoulders.
  • Avoid hyperextension of the lower back. Keep your lower back neutral throughout the movement.
